Episode XVII: The Jewel of Yavin
Worst. Distraction. Ever.

Cloud_City.png

Following the death of Task, the News Team has finally found Captain Bahha and the space-whales…

  • Jones realizes that Galactic Geographic, and their best chance for a paycheck, was located on the now-destroyed Alderaan.
  • Freya points out this likely means that they could use the tragedy to fake their deaths and escape the scrutiny of the Empire.
  • After securing new identities, the Team begins to reach out to their contacts for leads on jobs.
  • CB-83, revealing he may be more than just a simple medic droid, finds a lead through an old Hutt connection.
  • The Team heads to Bespin to meet with their prospective employer.
  • Immediately they must help her escape thugs sent by her husband to watch over her.
  • Many, many, many failed distractions, a mis-timed glop grenade, and one stunned Lutrillan later, the Team’s contact leads them to meet with her father, who explains the job to them.
  • They are going to steal the famed corusca gem, The Jewel of Yavin, twice. Once by stealing the profits of the gem’s auction, and twice by stealing the gem itself shortly after the auction.
  • The team begins to concoct their plan.

The Last Ride of Task'obil'meagho

10295100_10154550990995092_8294240778561115034_o.jpg

The Team has finally found the very-not-dead Commander Tallon hiding in a Tusken Fort on Tatooine…

  • After quickly clearing up a case of mistaken identity, the team (rejoined by a rejuvenated Jones) agree to help Tallon and his wife escape Tatooine.
  • In return, Tallon will lead them to the location of his old friend, Captain Bahha
  • Before that can happen, Quist betrays Tallon and opens Fort Tusken’s gate to Jodo Kast and his bounty hunters.
  • Task kills Quist for his betrayal. Tallon’s mercenaries join the Team to battle the Bounty Hunters.
  • Tallon and his wife escape into a secret tunnel, Claire follows them.
  • When the tide turns against him, Kast drops a thermal detonator and jet packs away from the fort.
  • Kast and Tallon’s men are all killed by the fiery blast. Jaxa, at the centre of explosion meets her doom.
  • Task already injured from the battle with Zardra is critically wounded by the detonator.
  • Kara dives into the secret tunnel in an attempt to avoid the blast. Though she is mostly shielded, one of her legs is utterly disintegrated.
  • Despite his best efforts CB-83 is unable to save Task, who asks with his dying breath if Jaxa, his new love, had survived.
  • Jones lies, and tells him yes, Task asks Jones to give her his credit chip so she will be taken care of.
  • The battered News Team meets Tallon in his secret hanger, where they escape in a speeder and starfighter, respectively, planning to meet in Mos Eisley where they can escape on the Team’s ship.
  • Kara, fighting through the pain of her lost leg, pilots the speeder.
  • Nearing Mos Eisley, the Team is attacked by the droid bounty hunter who decimated Lank’s Farm.
  • CB tries to throw Task’s pup-tent at the droid.
  • Kara slams on the breaks, causing the droid to shoot past them, then unleashes a display of quick-shooting that leaves the bounty hunter in pieces.
  • Before the Team can reach Mos Eisley, Kara is struck by the incredibly disorienting feeling that millions of voices had cried out at once and were suddenly silenced. She tries in vain to keep this to herself.
  • Claire and Jones are able to bluff their way past the new Stormtrooper patrols, and the team gets to their ship.
  • Ignoring the Imperial lock-down, the Team takes off, heading to a new rendezvous spot with Tallon in the Dune Sea.
  • After picking up Tallon and his wife, the Team fends off a few TIE fighters and escapes into hyperspace to Rodia.
  • On Rodia, the team seeks medical treatment, new limbs, and a brief moment of rest before leaving to seek out Bahha.
  • They find Bahha in Wild Space, amid a field of comets, following a herd of giant, ivory space-whales.
  • Kara is concerned to discover that she can hear the space-whales singing, a feat that Bahha comments only the force-sensitive member of his crew is able to accomplish.
  • Freya, searching the holonet for any information about their old editor-in-chief or an imperial bounty on their heads, discovers that peaceful Alderaan has been destroyed by a massive battle station.
  • Kara wonders if this was what she felt on Tatooine.
  • A funeral is held for Task. He is buried amongst the comets.

The Return of the Glop Grenade

KraytDragon-CotF.jpg
The News Team sets off with Old Arno into the desert in search of Commander Tallon…

  • They run across a crashed bounty hunter sailbarge under attack from three krayt dragons.
  • While deciding whether to get involved, a dragon erupts from the sand nearby and begins to chase the team.
  • Kara attempts to lead it away on her swoop.
  • She is successful for a short amount of time until the dragons claws tear the swoop out from under her.
  • The rest of the team launches a hail mary attempt to save Kara from the jaws of the dragon by hitting her with a glop grenade, creating a protective shell of glop goo.
  • Task manages to chase off the Krayt Dragon, blowing one of its legs clean off, but Kara nearly asphyxiates inside the ball of glop goo.
  • CB manages to free Kara, and treat some of her injuries.
  • The team continues on to their first stop, an apparently abandoned desert manor.
  • They find only Womp Rats inside.
  • As night begins to fall, and Kara still needs further medical help, Arno leads the team to Oasis, the desert home of the Dim-U monks.
  • The monks take Kara to their medical bay where they put her in a bacta tank.
  • While Kara spends a full 24 hours in the tank, the rest of the news team keeps busy around the commune.

  • The dinner is crashed by Zardra, a jet boot and flamethrower wielding bounty hunter, and several of her lackies.
  • Kara calls dibs on the jet boots.

Episode XIII: Wet and Wild in Mos Eisley
Ambushes & Ambushes & Ambushes & Ambushes

desert_energy_camp_by_simonfetscher-d5rsn6b.jpg
The News Team has decided to meet with Labria, the Devaronian information broker, at first twilight…

  • Labria leads them to an old water tower, where they are to have a meeting with Slag Flats.
  • Labria takes off as soon as he delivers the team to the tower.
  • Freya, Jones, CB, and Claire enter the tower, while Kara, Task, and Jaxa stand guard their landspeeder.
  • Inside the Team discovers several dead sentients and a very dead Slag Flats, killed by a poison dart just like Heff.
  • Before they can act, the doors to the silo building swing shut and magnetically seal.
  • A speeder full of Bounty Hunters roars away from the site. Kara gives chase.
  • Inside the silo, the situation goes from bad to worse as the roof hatch opens pouring in thousands of gallons of water.
  • Jones discovers the chamber is mag sealed by shooting the door.
  • Kara and Task make short work of the escaping Bounty Hunters, Task captures one using a Net Gun and Kara begins interrogating.
  • Inside the silo, the team opts to let the water fill the chamber and simply float themselves to the hatch in the roof.
  • After getting very little information out of the unhelpful Hunters, Kara opts to leave them tied up in the desert and return to help her friends.
  • Freya manages to blast a hole in the upper part of the silo and, after a series of stumbles and falling off a roof, finds the switch to open the lower door. CB and Jones surf to freedom.
  • The Team returns to Mos Eisley and the Inn as night falls on Tatooine.
  • The Innkeeper has a message for them from Old Arno, the last surviving Oldster. He wants to meet at Wuher’s Cantina ASAP.
  • Naturally, it’s a trap set up by Jodo Kast’s bounty hunters and Labria.
  • The News Team, seasoned by many rough months in the field, make short work of the Hunters, though their leader Puggles Todd escapes. Labria also manages to sneak away unharmed.
  • While the Team argues with Wuher over damages, Jodo Kast arrives to deliver a dart to Kara’s neck, injecting her with a deadly poison.
  • Freya, Jones, and Task pursue Kast out of the Cantina and through the streets of Mos Eisley. CB stays to treat, and ultimately save, Kara from the poison.
  • Kara immediately runs out of the Cantina and after the Bounty Hunter, leaving CB and Claire to deal with the angry owner and his demands.
  • Freya, Jones, and Task are waylaid by Puggles and a smoke-screecher grenade. Kara manages to wing the hunter with a single shot before he disappears into one of the larger Mos Eisley buildings.
  • While Jones is able to disable the screecher, a patrol of Imperial Stormtroopers arrives and cuts the team off from pursuing their prey.
  • All four retreat back to the cantina, leaving a reactivated screecher grenade and a smoke cloud between them and the Imperial Troops.
  • On her way back to the Cantina, Kara meets Old Arno who wishes to help the team find Commander Tallon, and avenge the deaths of his friends.
  • Arno leads the team to a hideout just outside of Mos Eisley, where they can safely spend the night.

The News Team arrives in Mos Eisley…

  • The News Van is parked in Docking Bay 53 and the team buys a few rooms at the Mos Eisley Inn
  • Asking around the streets of Mos Eisley, the team hears rumours of a Commander Tallon that might have been an old comrade of Captain Bahha.
  • Jones notes that the only Commander Tallon he has heard of died in the early days of the Empire. The team decides to investigate further.
  • Kara and Freya are attacked by bounty hunters in the market. The rather inept Hunters fall pretty quickly, but succeed in spooking the team.
  • Freya, Jones, and Task decides to head to Wuher’s Cantina to look for any leads that might help them find the supposedly dead Commander Tallon.
  • Jones is distracted by a Lumguzzling contest and Task by an attractive, and flirtatious, Chiss named Jaxa. Freya continues her attempts to listen into conversation without them.
  • Jones loses the competition. As penance, Freya steals his wallet and pistol.
  • Kara and Claire head to the local government offices to inspect the public records for leads.
  • CB decides to speak with local shop owners, and finds a potential lead in a speeder salesmen, but needs money for bribes and claims his “owner” will be along shortly.
  • Kara and Claire return to the group at the Cantina.
  • Freya attempts to listen in on some suspicious looking Mercs, she hears them mention “The Commander”, but they spot her listening in and quickly exit the Cantina. Kara decides to follow them.
  • Claire spots a Bounty Hunter recruiting others and pretends to be a hunter looking for work. The Hunter mentions that another Hunter named Kast is leading a group into the Wastes tomorrow to look for someone named “Tallon”
  • Kara tracks the Mercs to a speeder, which they use to speed out of town. She then goes to meet with CB.
  • Jones, excited by the prospect of CB having to pretend he is owned by Jones, meets up with the droid to bribe the speeder salesman.
  • Jones ends up buying a 4000 credit speeder, but also discovers that a large number of Bounty Hunters have been buying up speeders and that it is likely that Old Arno, one of a group of oldsters who arrived on Tatooine shortly after the time of Tallon’s supposed death might know where to find him, but he is out in the Dune Sea until tomorrow.
  • Still at the Cantina, Freya uncovers another lead: a Devaronian information broker named Labria.
  • The Team regroups at the Inn and decides their next move: meeting Labria at the Cantina when he is supposed to regularly show his face there in a few short hours.
  • Kara overhears a group of locals discussing the death of another oldster named Heff, and decides to look into whether he was connected to Old Arno. CB-83 decides to join her.
  • The Galactic Private Investigator team of Rocket & Bolts is born.
  • Kara and CB (Rocket & Bolts) meet with Heff’s granddaughter, a young Lepi named Tebbi.
  • Kara convinces Tebbi that Heff’s death was a part of a galactic conspiracy and Tebbi tells them that they found a small dart in Heff’s neck. Likely Bounty Hunters were involved and now the only oldsters from Arno’s group left alive are Arno and Slag Flats.
  • Meanwhile, Freya, Jones, Task (and Jaxa), and Claire head to the Cantina to find Labria.
  • They find a group of Bounty Hunters assaulting the Devaronian in a nearby alley.
  • Freya leaps into action, but crackshot Jonesy brings all three Hunters down, shooting the last one out of the sky as he tries to escape.
  • Labria is greatful for the timely rescue, and offers to take the Team to meet his boss, Slag Flats, at first twilight that night.

Journalism, Paper Shredding, and Impending Unemployment

The News Team returns to Tralus to deliver holo-drives containing the location of the Death Star plans…

  • Arriving at POINT Magazine HQ, the team finds the office is busy at work shredding and wiping files. The general atmosphere is one of controlled panic.
  • The sensitive information is handed over to the Editor-in-Chief who explains that he has been working with the rebellion and that the magazine will be under heavy Imperial scrutiny once he is gone.
  • The Team is told that a cover story has been created for them, and that as far as anyone is concerned they were contracted out to Galactic Geographic a week ago to follow a certain Captain Bahha in his search for a new species of Star Whale and “weren’t anywhere near the system when the location of the plans was stolen.”
  • The team, now jobless, must decide whether to find Captain Bahha to complete their cover story, or disappear into the shadows of the galaxy. The Editor gifts them the News Van to help them escape.
  • While they decide they also go about destroying any trace of information that might blow their cover.
  • Task decides to steal the stuffed MegaBear and borrows a repulsorsled from shipping.

  • CB decides to wipe his computer by blasting it.
  • Deciding to travel to Tatooine in order to find any spacers who might know the whereabouts of Captain Bahha, the teams jumps into hyperspace, leaving their homes behind.
  • Arriving two week later above Tatooine, the Team witnesses a diplomatic cruiser being attacked and captured by a Star Destroyer.
  • The cruiser launches a single escape pod. The Team scans it but, noticing it contains no life signs, decides not to investigate and heads towards Mos Eisley instead.

The News Team arrives on the Rubicund Eye with a plan… well… 12% of a plan…

  • Communicating with hand gestures and written notes to avoid any possible bugs or wires, the team forms a plan while they wait in an empty room on the Rubicund Eye station.
  • Somewhere, a Black Sun Vigo is in transit to the station to meet the Hotshot Smugglers the Team has made themselves out to be.
  • CB-83 synthesizes a virus to make Freya appear to be sick so she can stay in the room and slice her way into the Eye’s network.
  • It works a little too well, becomes contagious, and Task fall prey to the new virus’ symptoms.
  • Claire, Kara, and Jones escape the room and the virus.
  • While Claire heads off to alert the Black Sun gangsters that the room needs to be locked down, CB works on creating an anti-virus.
  • Dr. Zhivan, a creepy Givin mob doctor, accompanies Claire back to the room in order to confirm the threat of the virus.
  • Kara, Claire, and Jones wander off in search of the canteen, food, and an excuse to scout the station.
  • They get lost, and lose Jones, in the process, before being confined to the canteen by Oso Vardok, the gangster who appears to be in charge in the absence of the Eye’s Vigo.
  • An unexpected second visit from Dr. Zhivan leads to Freya scrambling to hide her slicing gear, and CB inducing Task to vomit and creating a scene that would force the Givin to double back for an Enviro-Suit.
  • CB alerts Claire and the others that the doctor needs to be delayed. Claire sneaks out of the canteen to distract him with an emergency injury that Kara has “sustained”
  • Kara decides to sell their story by stabbing herself through the hand with a knife. It is incredibly painful.
  • Claire doesn’t reach the doctor in time, leaving Kara with a knife in her hand and CB-83 to manage the growing pile of lies and half-truths.
  • The doctor has grows suspicious when Claire bursts into the room breaking quarantine. He radios to the Station security team.
  • The security team arrests Jones and a poorly bandaged Kara.
  • CB, Task, and Freya decide the doctor can’t out them if he’s unconscious and launch a desperation volley of stun blasts.
  • In an attempt to sell their new story that doctor’s suit ruptured and he came down with the same “virus” as the others, CB-83 decides to medically induce a coma in the Givin.
  • Kara needs a doctor.
